According to a 2009 study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes between 18 and 254 days for a person to establish a new habit. The average, they discovered, is 66 days.1
If you’re new to this daily Bible reading thing, you’re halfway to habit formation.
The past month has showed me something:
It’s showed me afresh that there is a fervent spiritual hunger amongst us. A yearning for a deep spirituality that leads to purposeful living. A longing for a vision of being that surpasses anything this world has to offer us. A heartfelt need to engage the God who is neither cruel and controlling nor flimsy and fragile.
A longing to better know the God who is.
Since we began, the emails that have gone out have clocked up seven thousand views. Seven thousand moments reflecting on the nature of God in the face of Jesus. Seven thousand moments of reorientation to the Kingdom of Jesus that is our true home.
Can I ask you three things?
I. Tell your stories
I’ve so appreciated every message, question, comment, spelling correction (seriously, keep them coming), like, and testimony of how God is speaking to you. Keep them coming. It’s so encouraging to see Him at work.
II. Sabbath
What day do you take a sabbath? Some have asked the sabbath prayer to swap to a different day. Could you fill out the poll below so I can get a better angle on what will serve your weekly rhythms?
III. Share
Do you know others who would benefit from joining us?
Who love Jesus but struggle with the Scriptures?
Who have sharp minds and want to know if this Jesus thing is worth their time?
Who have read the Bible a hundred times, and yet their reading has started to feel dry?
If these descriptions trigger names and faces to you, please share this with them. Post on social media, send messages, invite. I’d love to see this devotional land in the inbox of many more people, if they would find it helped them journey towards Him.
Thanks friends.
Keep going. The destination is the heart of the Father.
See you tomorrow,
Chris
Thanks Chris! I have really enjoyed starting the year with this new daily habit. Pete and I have been reading each day together. There have been some great themes that God has been speaking to me about and some challenges to ponder throughout the week.
